Contributed piece “Slowly I Walk Down“
Ami Aika currently resides and thrives in the vibrant Pacific Northwest. With an education in Fine Arts, she simply enjoys art as a natural human reflection of nature’s deep mystery. Writing, drawing, and playing piano are a few of her creative responses to inspirations from hiking, gardening, teaching piano to little ones, being in love, and her yoga practice. In 2011, Ami hosted “Cultivating the Forbidden Fruit,” a talk on sustainability and polyamory by Lindsay Hagamen in Olympia, Washington. In 2012, she helped to organize the Olympia Village Building Convergence. For four years, she has been active in a local, women-run farm and is excited to be a part of transitioning this farm to collective management in 2014. Her favorite way to build community is hosting potlucks, full of delicious food from the earth. Her latest adventure is becoming a mom, with the new light and learning this brings to her life, her partner Matthew’s, and their baby, Huckleberry.
